Government Conducting Self-Employment Review

30/09/2015

In an announcement made on the 1 July 2015 it was publicised that an independent review of self-employment in the UK is to be conducted.  This marks another deliverance from the Conservative Government on one of their pledges made to the Self-Employed during their election campaign.

Self-Employment accounts for over a quarter of the growth in the labour market since 2010 with one in seven people choosing to become self-employed and this contribution to the economy is one of the aspects that will be measured in the review along with the various reasons why people are increasingly choosing this option.

The review will also look at how the self-employed can be better supported which is in line with the Tories pledge to review pensions, maternity pay and the issues facing the self-employed when it comes to matters such as mortgages and childcare.
The review is hoped to create an environment whereby support is given to people who are prepared to work and are not afraid to strike out on their own and is expected to be published in early 2016.
